Chicago's legendary Uptown Theatre has been ... [Sales]

uptown_main_collage.jpgChicago's legendary Uptown Theatre has been bought by locally based independent promoter Jam Productions for $3.2 million, pending approval of the judge presiding over the theater's foreclosure sale. The total cost of the theater will be around $5 million, thanks to some $1.8 million in liens related to city-performed maintenance work, but here's hoping the sale is the first step toward the theater's gorgeous interior being opened to the public once again after years of it sitting vacant.  read more »

Thin film future

One of the current assumptions in the music industry is that part of the way bands will make money in the future is by providing songs to soundtracks of big movies. Trouble is, Hollywood is getting less keen on having big bands sticking their oar in - partly because they've seen the Prince effect, where the little chap's soundtrack to the first Batman movie made it so of its time, the film now looks hopelessly dated; partly, and more obviously, because big stars mean big bills and the movie getting overshadowed by monstrous egos:

Heard a song a couple of weeks ago but missed the artist and title, think it was played on Jo Whiley, and also heard it again since. Can't remember any lyrics but its got a kind of The Streets meet Eminem style to it. Any ideas???
